Typhoon Preparation Checklist

Complete checklist and prevention measures to prepare before typhoon season.

Before typhoon season (typically May), Taiwan residents should prepare homes. First, inspect windows, doors, and roofs for damage or leaks. Secure items that wind could dislodge. Trim trees to prevent branches from threatening structures or power lines.

Prepare emergency supplies including drinking water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, first aid kits, medications, and hygiene products. Stockpile at least 7 days of supplies in case typhoons disrupt supply lines. Purchase emergency radios, phone chargers, and backup power systems.

Develop family emergency plans including shelter locations and assembly points. Store copies of important documents including insurance, ID, and bank records. Prepare pet emergency supplies and carriers.

When typhoon warnings are issued, immediately close windows and doors, move outdoor items. If government evacuation orders are given, evacuate to designated shelters immediately. Avoid traveling during typhoons, especially in high winds. After typhoons, inspect for damage and contact insurers for claims.
